Forgiveness is huge and it is complicated, layered, and sometimes almost impossible.
We all know what it’s like to hold onto something that hurt us, or to wish we could finally make peace with the past. But forgiveness isn’t about saying what happened was okay – it’s about freeing ourselves from the heaviness of resentment and allowing a little more light, compassion, and peace to come in.
In this workshop we’ll explore forgiveness not as an abstract idea, but as a lived and deeply personal process. Through guided art-making and gentle reflection, you’ll be invited to explore what forgiveness means for you personally.
What Forgiveness Could Mean?
Forgiveness isn’t something we do for others – it’s something we give to ourselves.
It’s the conscious decision to stop carrying the weight of anger, guilt, or blame, even when the situation or person hasn’t changed.
From a holistic perspective, forgiveness involves the whole self – mind, body, and spirit.
When we begin to release those old emotions, our nervous system softens. We breathe a little easier. Our thoughts feel clearer.
Science even shows that forgiveness can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and increase our overall sense of wellbeing. Spiritually, it’s often seen as an opening – a return to connection, empathy, and love.
Personal Forgiveness Through Art
Art has this amazing ability to speak the language of the heart.
It allows us to express what words can’t quite reach.
In this workshop, you’ll use simple art materials — paint, pencil, collage, – whatever calls to you, to create a piece that reflects your very personal journey toward forgiveness.
There are no rules and no “right” way to create and we are all so very different.
The process is very personal and is in itself the ritual – and can be a mark in time that says, this is where I begin to let go.
The Power of Ritual
In this workshop, we’ll also treat the creative process as a personal ceremony – a mindful practice that not only honours your story, your pain, but also your growth and your journey.
Together we will set our personal intention at the start of the session – which could be to release resentment towards a certain person for example, or to cultivate compassion for ourselves or someone else. It could be to forgive someone for their act, to forgive ourselves, or simply to open to healing. You decide, you choose.
Through a short meditation, a creative process, and a reflection, the workshop is a ritual – providing a space to pause, breathe, and reconnect with ourselves.
What You’ll Take Away
By the end of the session, you’ll have created a visual reminder of this particular journey towards or to forgiveness – whatever that looks like to you and can be something that you can keep as a personal symbol / reminder.
This is not about forcing forgiveness or rushing the process. It’s about beginning.
